Starting the meditations on entrepreneurship

I want to start this blog to record my reflections on entrepreneurship.

I started my professional life as a software engineer, and I still am a “software guy”. However since a few years I have started a second career as an entrepreneur; as someone who needs to figure out how to provide a service or product in a way that is economically sustainable. I would like to say that in these few years I have learned how to perform this job but unfortunately this is not the case. I am at a stage at which I often know that I am doing something wrong, sometimes I even know what I should do instead, but I lack the certainty, the discipline, and the techniques to get the job done.

I think that many others out there live this profession as something that cannot be learned. In my opinion part of the problem is that we do not treat it as a profession. We like to think that gut instincts, hard work, and luck will do the trick. In general we are emotional and not rational in many situations and entrepreneurship is one of them. Given we do not understand how it works we just wing it.

Now, there are some who suggested that by simply being rationale one could do a much better job than most. I like to think this is indeed the case. In particular I would like to take inspiration by Marcus Aurelius, who had a very hard job as a Roman Emperor. He faced the immense challenges he encountered by applying stoic principles and reflecting on his life. He is the author of the well known book titled “Meditations”, so he is the inspirator of this blog.
